History

Established in 2011.

Kanen Coffee began as a one-man outfit in his family's kitchen.  Upon the arrival of his sixth repair job, Sam and his wife decided it was time for his burgeoning business to move out of the house.  Now a crack, three-person outfit operating in a proper repair shop just north of downtown Berkeley, Sam and company are proud to serve the considerable espresso repair needs of the East Bay...and beyond.

Kanen Coffee Co-Owner Sam Kanenwisher has been taking things apart and putting them back together since he was a child. After high school, Sam joined the US Coast Guard, serving four years as an Electronic's Technician repairing radars, radios, and air traffic control systems onboard a Coast Guard cutter patrolling the Caribbean. Later, during long hours of studying as a divinity grad student, Sam developed an enthusiasm for coffee--he even learned how to roast his own beans.  But Sam missed working with his hands, so when a relative asked if he'd take a look at his broken espresso machine (a La Pavoni Europiccola), the clouds parted and the heavens aligned--a calling was revealed.
