History

Established in 2010.

The owner grew up with his family business, Douglas TV The Big Screen Store. His father fired him the summer he turned 16 and got him a job selling Electrolux vacuum cleaners door to door. By the end of the summer, he learned how fortunate he was to work for his family business, so he re-applied for his old job. Not long after, his dad put him back to work in the store.
By 1989, his father stepped back from the daily operations and let his sons run the company. Over the next 11 years, they opened their most successful store on 159th St between LaGrange & 94th. Their growth continued until October 2000, when they sold their company to Tweeter Home Entertainment.
In 2010, the current owner decided it was time for him to do what he loves, so he opened his own retail vacuum and allergy relief store in Highland Park next to Anton's.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

Steve Kritz started in retail at the young age of 5. He went to work with his father in their family-owned store, Douglas TV. Steve's responsibility was getting the "guys" lunch! As he aged, he was taught how to sell boomboxes and Walkmans. By the time Steve was 13, his father allowed him to buy and merchandise all portable audio equipment until eventually he became a full-fledged salesperson.

After college, Steve joined the family business in a full-time role. Over the years, he took on additional responsibilities which included store management, buying, advertising, and human resources. The family business was sold in 2000, but Steve never forgot his roots. Then in 2010, he opened Kritz Vacuum & Allergy Relief in Chicago. He opened his Highland Park location in 2012, then a third one in Orland Park in August 2014.

Steve's desire to help people and to provide service beyond expectation drives his retail philosophy.
